I would like to address ongoing social media concerns about the accuracy of the information we have provided Gulf Breeze High School parents and students. I pledge to provide the most accurate information to you that I can, keeping in mind we cannot publicly release some information due to privacy laws.
In this most recent scare, reports of a hit list surfaced on social media. We have not had any student or parent report firsthand information that a GBHS student mentioned a hit list or had a hit list. If anyone has firsthand information of this type, we encourage you to come forward.
In cases dealing with concerning or threatening student statements or social media posts, the
investigation will include several steps; Initial investigation working with law enforcement, possible removal of the student pending a threat assessment by a psychologist, and law enforcement working with parents to determine student access to weapons. If we do not feel it is safe for the student to return to our school, we will work with district officials and parents to find an appropriate educational placement for the student.
I understand your fear and concern. I honestly want to work with you to create a school and community that helps our students feel safe. My administrative team and I stand ready to discuss your concerns.
